Getting out of town, even if it’s just a short distance away is always so fun. This summer, my girlfriend Holly and I decided to brave heading to Calgary with four kids in tow and no husbands to help. While there were a few moments of stress, overall it was such a fun trip, I’m so happy we got to make these memories with our kids.
The best decision we made was to stay at the Sheraton Cavalier Hotel in Calgary. Full disclosure, the hotel room was provided to us free of charge, but I would 100% stay here again on my own dime. This hotel is so great if you have kids, there are lots of room options, comfy beds, on-site dining, tons of restaurants and fast food options near by and an amazing pool.
Hotel pool/waterslides
The pool at the Sheraton Cavalier is the best. They have the deep pool, baby pool, two hot tubs, dry sauna and two awesome waterslides. We spent an entire day here and I kind of wished we had planned two full pool days, that’s how much fun we had. Pro tip– the pool gets busy at night after supper, but if you visit it during the day its basically empty. We had the whole pool to ourselves for the majority of the day, which is perfect when you’ve got four kids five and under in tow. Don’t forget to pack a life jacket if your kids aren’t fully confident swimming, as I didn’t see any there.
Family-friendly suites
Another great feature of this hotel is that they have suites, which makes travelling with young kids so much easier. Our suite had a bedroom with a king size bed and a living room with a couch that also pulled out into a bed. That separation of space meant that instead of going to bed at 8pm with the kids, I could just shut the bedroom door and still have time for myself in the evening. After bedtime, I was able to hang out, watch tv in the living room and enjoy a glass of wine with my girlfriend without disturbing the kids’ sleep.
There was also a dining table to eat at, which was super convenient. That way you can order room service or Skip the Dishes to your room and the kids have somewhere to actually eat. The rooms also have a mini fridge and coffee maker. I love to stock the fridge with a few snacks and drinks to occupy the kids in the morning; they can eat yogurt and watch cartoons while I have a chance to get ready!
Hotel Amenities
A few other amenities at the hotel include free parking and wifi, a gym and several dining options. On our last day we had breakfast at Color’s Bistro. The food was great and they had colouring sheets for the kids, which is always a pro in my books.
If you’re looking to book this summer there’s also some great deals to be had. They’ve currently got package deals that include tickets to either the Calgary Zoo or Calaway Park.
Save this post on Pinterest if you’re planning a family trip to Calgary anytime soon. If you have any questions about the hotel, just let me know and I’d be happy to answer.
